Evaluation Section 1: Pre production

In the pre-production for the recreation video I chose to work with Amy and Charlotte, this is because we are all friends and work well and productively together. However due to only have three of us in the group, we had to get our friends Rosie and Finn to be the actors for video as we knew the three of us would need to work together to film the video. We chose to do the video for 'Heavy' by Oh Wonder as the mise-en-scene is simple so we knew we could film it in the studio we have at school.

My group hand drawn the story board together for the first minute of the song, we split the first 60 seconds of the song in thirds so we could draw a part each, I drew the first 20 seconds, Charlotte drew the next 20 seconds and Amy drew the last 20 seconds to make it a minute as my group only recreated the first minute of the song. We didn't recreate the whole video as due to the small group, we knew it would take much longer to finish then other groups who had more members so they were more able to complete the whole length of the video.

We didn't need any props for the recreation as there is no props in the video as the actors are only dancing, we dressed the actors very similarly to what the people in the official Oh Wonder music video were wearing, such as Fin wearing a stripy top and Rosie wearing a black dress.

Evaluation Section 2: Production

I thought the production was extremely successful for my group as we filmed the section we wanted to re-create in a hour and it was very productive. It was fun to film and not very stressful as we had story boards to help us and the original video on hand so the actors could look at the movements they need to recreate so the finished video would be very similar if not very exact to the original video.

The studio in the school was very useful as it provided us with professional lighting and filming equipment, the plain walls of the studio fit the original video perfectly as the actors in the original video  were dancing in front of plain walls, however in the original video the walls were coloured. We could not have the walls coloured during the production as we would not have been allowed to paint the walls in the studio and we couldn't staple coloured paper to the walls either as we had to use the studio in turns with other groups.

Evaluation Section 3: Post-Production

During the editing process for the video, we had to select which images and videos fitted the original video the closest. It was quite difficult to edit the clips so it would follow the beat of the song because the clips in the original video change every time the beats in the song change. It was also quite tricky because a lot of the majority of the clips were under a second long just like in the original video so it was very fiddly when editing. We also found it hard and impossible to edit the background of the clips so it would fit the coloured background in the original video.

Overall I think the recreation video was very successful because it follows the original video very well and closely such as the dancing of the actors is the same and the clips changing on the beats of the song is the same as the original video. The original video challenges the 'norm' for conventional videos as there is no narrative in the video and it is just the two artists dancing in a coloured room. If I was to do it again I would have painted the walls the same colour as the walls in the original video if my group was allowed to do so. I have learnt that simple details in music videos is very important and need to be considered closely during the production of the video.
